5 Reasons Why We Are Fee-Only

Have you ever been sold an investment product only to later regret the purchase? At the end of the day, a commission-based broker gets paid for not giving you advice, but instead for selling you financial products.

Like you, we were frustrated by the self-serving financial industry where the scales are weighted toward the advisor. We do not receive any commissions that would impact our fiduciary responsibility or create conflicts of interest.

We welcome our fiduciary responsibility. Fiduciary simply means that we are required by law to do what’s in your best interest.

We help our clients live their life on purpose without the worry of money by creating a comprehensive plan. We focus together on financial planning including cash-flow, college, estate, insurance, investment and retirement planning.

We’ve been in your shoes and it’s why Bartley Financial Advisors is a Fee-Only Fiduciary.

As a fee only firm, we are required to work in YOUR best interest.

1. We’re On Your Team

We're on your team

Fee-Only puts us on the same team as you. Whether you are are a business owner, a healthcare professional, or a high networth individual, we are here to serve you. As fee-only advisors, we have no inherent conflicts of interest. This is because none of our compensation is based on product sales such as stocks, mutual funds, and annuities.

By comparison, a commission-based professional is required to do only what’s suitable for the client. We often find that due to high commissions, the broker may have acted in their best interest, not their clients. Often times, the broker is also sold on the investment product by the product distributor.
Having both CPAs and a CFPs on your team at BFA, you get the benefit of the expertise and experience to review investment products to discern if an investment is a bad deal or a beneficial one, without the conflict of interest of a commission.

2. We’re Focused on the Big Picture & the small details

We're focused on the big picture

You’ll gain comprehensive advice and it won’t cost you anything extra. The wide range of financial areas include: cash-flow planning, college planning, estate planning, insurance planning, investment planning and retirement planning.

We pull together and collaborate with all of your financial professionals to give you the best financial advice including coordinating and collaborating with outside sources.

3. You Can Expect Transparency

You can expect transparency

Transparency and objectivity are our primary focus.

You can rest assured that we have your best interest in mind. We are held to strict codes of professional and ethical conduct which we take very seriously.

4. Our Value Is Clear

Our value is clear

We are consumers too; we all want to feel like we are getting a value. It would go against our grain if our services were not priced fairly. With our fee-only pricing, you will pay one simple fee that covers all planning and investment management work that we do.

Many financial planning firms either provide minimal or no financial planning, or charge you separately for planning, in addition to investment management fees. This is not a value. We provide ALL services in our one simple fee that is generally the same as other firms but with a lot more services. That is our goal, to be a Value, a “no-brainer” decision when compared to other firms.

That is also how we choose our service partners. If you need to add or replace a professional on the team, e.g. attorney, CPA, etc. we recommend professionals that we have screened and we have negotiated the fees with. These professionals will provide you best in class service at a reasonable fee or we will not recommend their services.

5. Our Relationships Must Be Based on a Win-Win Formula

Win-win formula

You’ll never be a business transaction. This is a relationship, we go all-in to help our clients achieve their goals and dreams.

Finding the right financial advisor can often be a daunting and anxiety producing search. We all feel vulnerable when discussing our personal goals and finances. We are here to help you navigate the process to find the right financial advisor.

So, how are we paid?

At Bartley Financial Advisors, we are simply paid by either retainer or a percentage of investments that we managed. These fees are typically deducted quarterly from your investment accounts unless we advise differently for tax deduction reasons (e.g. business and real estate owners). For our growing professionals program the service fee is deducted monthly.

We offer both flat retainer fees and Percentage of Assets Under Management (PAUM) fees. Our PAUM fees noted in the grid below automatically lower a client’s percentage fee as their accounts grow, but may not lower the total dollar amount of their fees. We rectify this by offering a flat or retainer fee or a lower percentage fee than what is on the grid below.

Whether your fee is paid as an ongoing retainer or a percentage of the investment portfolio that we manage, our goal is that our fee is 1% or less of your investment portfolio per year. The fee is all-inclusive. It includes all of our services, including all aspects of financial planning, tax planning, investment management, collaborating/working with your CPA, attorney, insurance agent, and other services.

The only time we don’t charge a fee that is based on the value of a client’s investment portfolio is when we are working with business owners or young doctors who have not built up enough investment assets that we can use to bill for our extensive planning work. In such cases, these clients will pay us a retainer, which is tax deductible to the business for business owners.

We have reviewed all of the top advisors throughout the country that provide the high level of services that we do and can offer the high level of experience and knowledge that we have. These other financial advisors were found to charge comparable or higher fees. With our fee structure, the more money you have the lower our fees.

Percentage of Assets Under Management Fee (PAUM):

$1,000,000 but less than $2,000,000
